Welcome to the webpage of the Italian Chapter of the IEEE Control Systems Society

The main objective of the chapter is to provide a forum for professionals in both academia and industry to exchange ideas and knowledges inthe wide fields of systems and control.

The chapter actively organizes invited lectures of high-level academic leaders, not only to academic researchers, but also to industry researchers, through cooperation with other academic and industrial associations. The goal is to extend the influence of IEEE ItalySection and CSS Chapter to a wider audience including industry, and to facilitate better cooperation between the academic research and industry activities.

Moreover, the chapter also aims to attract more industrial members to IEEE activities in Italyand to increase student branch activities in Italy.

History of the Italy Chapter

The chapter was founded in 1998 by Professor Giuseppe Conte, who chaired it until 2016, when Prof. Maria Pia Fanti took over the chairing responsibilities. Since 2019, the chapter is chaired by Fabrizio Dabbene.

About IEEE

IEEE is the world's largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community through IEEE's highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities.

IEEE, pronounced "Eye-triple-E," stands for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The association is chartered under this name and it is the full legal name. To learn more about the association's name, for more information please read the History of IEEE.

IEEE membership is open to academics, industry employers, students, and any person who is interested to read themost innovative research in technology, to network, to expand his expertise, and to receive several benefits.

About IEEE Control Systems Society

IEEE Control Systems Society is an international scientific, engineering, and professional organisation that was founded in 1954 and is dedicated to the advancement of research, development and practice in automation and control systems.

The society and its members are involved in a number of activities, including publishing journals and a magazine, holding conferences and sponsoring committees in various areas of technical specialisation.

Each member receives the IEEE Control Systems Magazine, considered to be one of the most interesting and readable publications devoted to systems and control. Full IEEE Members also receive the IEEE Spectrum and the IEEE Institute, as well as discounts on IEEE publications, IEEE education courses and tutorials and IEEE sponsored conferences.

The Control Systems Society produces four other technical publications;

  • The IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, which is the premier archival journal in the field of systems and control.
  • The IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, which is dedicated to the publication of high-quality papers on advances in control systems engineering.
  • The IEEE Transactions on Control of Network Systems, which is committed to the timely publication of high-impact papers at the intersection of control systems and network science.
  • The IEEE Control Systems Letters which publishes peer-reviewed brief articles that provide a rapid and concise account of innovative ideas regarding the theory, design, and applications of all aspects of control engineering.

Subscriptions to these two journals also provide Web access to same-year issues through IEEE Xplore. The local chapter provides a forum for presentation and discussion of new ideas in systems and control, as well as a source of information about IEEE and Control System Society.

The Society also sponsors numerous conferences, workshops and seminars throughout the world.

  • The principal meeting of the CSS, the IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), is held in December each year in locations throughout the world.
  • The annual IEEE Conference on Control Technology and Applications (CCTA) is dedicated to bridging the gap between the theory and practice of control systems engineering.

The CSS is also one of the sponsoring societies of the American Control Conference.
